Authentic narrations indicate that when the Prophet Muhammad PBUH would rise for the night prayer (Tahajjud), he would recite these last 10 ayahs of surah imran first, even before performing ablution.
When Hazrat Uthman (RA) said that “Whoever recites surah Al Imran last 10 verses in the night will have the reward of standing in prayer for the whole night,” it is evident that he must have heard this from the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, as no companion would say such a statement on their own without the authority of the Prophet PBUH. Therefore, his statement is regarded as a Hadith Mursal (a type of Hadith where a companion directly attributes a statement to the Prophet).
Benefit: One of the great blessings Allah has granted to the Muslim Ummah is the opportunity for significant rewards through simple acts. Translation:
“Our Lord, You did not create this [universe] aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing], so protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire – You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers, there are no helpers.
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed.
Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous.
Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise.” [Aal-Imran 3:191-194]
These verses are among the most comprehensive supplications in the Quran. As mentioned earlier, the special virtue of the last 10 ayat of surah Al Imran is due to these supplicatory verses. Allah knows best.

Surah Al Imran last ruku is considered one of the greatest passages in the Quran. Regarding its first six verses, it is narrated that when they were revealed, the entire night the Prophet Muhammad PBUH was overwhelmed with emotion. He wept continuously while standing, sitting, and lying down. Even during the night prayer (Tahajjud), the Prophet PBUH was deeply moved. He performed a long prostration, during which he cried, and the place of prostration became wet with tears. Afterward, he lay down briefly, but the state of emotion remained until dawn.
When Bilal (RA) came to inform him of the Fajr prayer and saw him in this condition, he asked about the reason. The Prophet PBUH replied, “O Bilal, why should I not weep when, tonight, these verses have been revealed to me by my Lord?” He then recited the verses.
This narration is mentioned in Imam Razi’s Tafsir Kabir, and the crying and emotion were out of gratitude.
